Governor Shri Acharya attends foundation stone laying of Gauhati University infrastructure Development Project
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the infrastructure development project of Gauhati University at the University Convention Centre, which was laid by Vice-President of India Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan in the presence of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Welcoming the Vice-President, the Governor said that his presence at Gauhati University, a revered centre of learning, was a matter of immense pride and inspiration for the students and the academic community of Assam. He highlighted Shri Radhakrishnan’s long and dedicated public life and his contributions towards public welfare, youth empowerment and education.
The Governor said that the infrastructure project worth Rs. 250 crore marks a significant milestone in Gauhati University’s journey of progress. He described the project as an investment in Assam’s future, its youth and the advancement of research, knowledge and innovation.
Speaking on the university’s rich legacy, Shri Acharya said that Gauhati University, with more than 300 affiliated colleges and over 2.5 lakh students, has emerged as a major centre of academic excellence in Northeast India. He also noted its NAAC A+ accreditation as a reflection of its commitment to quality education.
The Governor underlined the importance of integrating India’s rich knowledge traditions with modern education in line with the National Education Policy. He urged students to bridge tradition and technology, culture and modernity, and knowledge and innovation, and channel their talent towards the development of Assam and the nation.
He also welcomed the launch of the Assamese dictionary, ‘Chandrakanta Abhidhan’, and ‘Bhupen Hazarika-Hundred Years of a Wandering Song’ published by Gauhati University, describing them as valuable efforts towards preserving and enriching the Assamese language.
Calling upon the youth to contribute to the vision of Viksit Assam and Viksit Bharat, the Governor said that strengthening educational institutions, empowering teachers and nurturing young talent would be a key to Assam’s progress.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar Prof. Utpal Sharma, faculty members, students and other dignitaries were present at the programme.
