IMD forecasts for very heavy rainfall likely over the neighbouring State in coming 3-4 days
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted today of extremely heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm in the neighbouring states of Assam i.e. Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh from August 3 to 5, 2026 which may impact various parts of Cachar, Dima Hasao,
West Karbi Anglong, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Tinsukia districts of Assam.
As per the weather pattern suggests that thunderstorm with lightning with extremely heavy rainfall (orange and red warnings) is expected at most places of East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya, Papumpare, Kurung Kumey, East Kameng, East Siang, Lohit and Changlang districts of Arunachal Pradesh may impact the neighbouring districts of Assam.
Further, yellow warning (Watch) has been issued by IMD for most of the districts of Nagaland bordering Assam which would impact Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
Furthermore, IMD predicted heavy rain for Kamrup Metro also which may affect all the neighbouring districts of Assam. It may aggravate water logging, flooding, flash floods, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of localized landslides in vulnerable pockets. The district authorities and ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.
In view of the situation, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) requests all the citizens of the concerned districts to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant. Daily commuters and long-distance travelers are requested to plan their routines accordingly, avoiding unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall. Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides.
