Assam Governor Shri Acharya confers degrees at 15th convocation of Assam Don Bosco University
Governor calls upon graduates to turn knowledge into purpose and education into service to society
Shri Acharya urges students to compete with themselves, embrace innovation and contribute to nation-building
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today called upon graduating students of Assam Don Bosco University to use their education not merely as a means of personal advancement, but as an instrument to create positive change in society and contribute to the nation’s development.
Addressing the 15th Convocation Ceremony of Assam Don Bosco University at , the Governor congratulated the graduating students and acknowledged the contribution of their parents, families and teachers in supporting them throughout their academic journey. Terming the convocation as both a celebration of achievement and the beginning of a new phase of life, the Governor said that a degree is a testimony to academic accomplishment, but a student’s true identity in the years ahead would be shaped by knowledge, behaviour, decisions and contributions to society.
Recalling the life and legacy of Saint Don Bosco, the Governor said that his importance on education, guidance and the holistic development of young people remains relevant even today. He expressed appreciation for Assam Don Bosco University for carrying forward this legacy through the integration of education, skills, innovation and humanity.
“Your education should give direction to your life and also become a means of bringing positive changes to the lives of others and to society,” the Governor said. He also observed that the graduating students are entering the professional world at an important phase in India’s development journey. Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat, he said that the coming decades would offer young people unprecedented opportunities to participate in the transformation of the country.
He underscored the importance that building a developed India requires not only modern infrastructure, a strong economy and advanced technology, but also educated, skilled and responsible citizens. He urged the students to connect their personal aspirations with the needs of the nation, adding that every challenge should be seen as an opportunity to find solutions. Calling upon the students to think beyond conventional employment, the Governor encouraged them to consider entrepreneurship and creating opportunities for others.
Shri Acharya also advised the graduates not to measure their success by comparing themselves with others. Referring to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Governor said, “Life is not a leader board and one’s journey is not a competition with others but with oneself.” He urged the students to continuously evaluate their own progress by asking whether they are better than they were yesterday, whether they are learning something new, overcoming their weaknesses and moving closer to their goals.
Highlighting the importance of ethical judgment alongside technical competence, the Governor said that technology can greatly enhance human capabilities, but its direction and purpose must remain guided by human responsibility and values. He encouraged the graduates to apply technology for the larger public good, particularly in areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, village development and public service.
Focusing on Assam and the North-East’s rich natural resources, biodiversity and cultural heritage, the Governor said that the region has an important role to play in the development of the nation. He called upon Assam Don Bosco University to continue promoting academic excellence alongside social development and human values. Urging the students to remain connected with their roots wherever they may go, the Governor said that respect for one’s language, culture and heritage must remain an integral part of their journey. “The true purpose of education will be fulfilled when your success becomes connected with the progress of your society,” he said.
Governor Shri Acharya extended his best wishes to all graduating students and expressed confidence that their achievements and contributions would bring pride to their families, University, society and the nation.
