Governor releases book on diabetic foot care

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today released a book titled “Diabetic Foot: Some Unknown Facts” authored by Dr. Sudhir Kumar Jain at Lok Bhavan here today.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya said that with the increasing prevalence of diabetes in society and associated health risks, there is an urgent need to spread awareness about its complications and promote timely medical intervention. He observed that the book would serve as a valuable guide for patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals by providing accurate, evidence-based and easy-to-understand information on diabetic foot care.

The Governor lauded Dr. Jain for authoring the book and said that the publication based on his vast medical experiences would help create awareness and remove misconceptions about diabetic foot infections.

Shri Acharya further stated that the publication would contribute significantly towards strengthening health consciousness and building a healthier society. He added that timely diagnosis, proper treatment and awareness can save both lives as well as limbs, and expressed hope that the book would encourage people to adopt preventive healthcare practices.

Highlighting the importance of compassionate and inclusive healthcare, Shri Acharya referred to the ancient Sanskrit verse,

“Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah,

Sarve Santu Niramayah,

Sarve Bhadrani Pashyantu,

Ma Kashchid Dukhabhag Bhavet,”

which means “May all be happy, may all be free from illness, may all witness auspiciousness and may none suffer.” He said that the spirit of the verse reflects India’s timeless philosophy of universal well-being and collective health, and the book is a meaningful contribution towards realizing that ideal through awareness and preventive healthcare.

Author of the book Dr. Sudhir Kumar Jain said that prevention is always better than cure and emphasized the importance of awareness and early medical attention in dealing with diabetic foot complications. He also informed that the book has been published in Assamese, Hindi and English to make the information accessible to people from different linguistic backgrounds.

Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, VC Srimanta Sankardeva Society of Health Sciences Dr. Arup Barman, Regional Faculty Public Health Foundation India Dr B.B. Kukreja, along with a host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
