Tibetan Uprising Day celebrated
GUWAHATI, March: A lecture and interactive session was organised on the occasion of the Tibetan Uprising Day at Pragjyotish College here today by Free Tibet-Voice from Assam in col laboration with the college’s Department of Political Science, said a press release. The session began with the welcome address by Dr Manoj Kumar Mahanta, Principal of the college, who also explained the importance of the event in cre ating awareness amongst the student community in general. Dr Jagadindra Ray Choudhury, president of the college govern ing body, highlighted the importance and linkage of the Brahmaputra river civilisations in the context of Tibet. Soumyadeep Dutta, conven or of Free Tibet Voice from Assam, gave the keynote lec ture on the topic “Tibetan Free dom Movement’. He explained. the history of Tibet as a country and society and the culture of the Tibetan people. He also gave a lucid account of the aspirations of the Tibetan people as a nation and their struggle against the forceful occupation by China. Nabanita Sharma, coordinator of the organisation, also spoke. Na badeep Das, head of the Depart ment of Political Science of the college, offered the vote of thanks.
