Inter-Ministerial Central Team wrapped-up their flood assessment visit in Assam
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: The Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) comprising of six members from different ministries of Government of India (GoI) wrapped-up their on-spot flood assessment visit to the state for the year 2025 and 2026 today in a meeting with Dr. Ravi Kota, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Assam (GoA).

In a high level meeting at Janata Bhawan, Dispur today, the Central team briefed their experiences of visiting the districts across the state. The meeting was chaired by the Chief Secretary, GoA and attended by the senior officials of line departments of the GoA, central agencies like NDRF, Indian Army, Indian Airforce, NHAI, NF Railways, FCI, BSNL, DoT etc. and the district administrations of six flood affected districts in virtual mode.

The IMCT was divided into 2 groups to visit the flood affected districts of the state. The first team comprising of the team leader Shri Praveen Kumar Rai, Joint Secretary (UT), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (GoI), Shri Mahesh Kumar, Joint Director- FCD, DoE, Ministry of Finance, GoI, Dr. SVSP Sharma, Scientist-SF, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad visited the flood affected areas of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts. The second Team including Shri Sanjeev Kumar Suman, Director, CWC, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Shri Prabhat Kumar, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development and Shri Dheeraj, Regional Officer, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways visited the Cachar district. They would also visit Chirang and Bajali districts tomorrow i.e. July 11, 2026.

The Central Team discussed about the damages and losses of the livelihood and properties of the visiting districts in the meeting. The Government of Assam informed the Central Team that as the rainy season is in progress in the state and as the damage assessment is still going on, the final Flood memorandum from the state would be submitted to the Government of India after the flood season is over.
The Central Team has also suggested the following points:
- The state government to take up mitigation projects under State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) for dredging and channelization of smaller rivers and tributaries to enhance water carrying capacity and reduce runoff flood water.
- The state government may take up projects like restoration of wetlands of flood inundated districts for flood water cushioning.

The meeting was also attended by L. Sweety Changsan, Addl. Chief Secretary, GoA, Revenue & Disaster Management Department and Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA, Dr. B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, GoA, Panchayat & Rural Development and other senior officers of various line departments of Government of Assam.
