Assam lays foundation stone of RCC bridge over Dhansiri river

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Fulfilling a long-standing demand of the people, an RCC bridge over Dhansiri river on Udalguri-Bhairabkunda road under NERSDS project for the year 2021-22 has been formally initiated. The bridge, once completed, is expected to enhance the connectivity between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. To be constructed with financial outlay of Rs 34.42 crore, the bridge is targeted to be completed by February 2025. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for construction of the bridge on Tuesday terming it a historic occasion for BTR in particular and Assam in general. Attending a program at Bhairabkunda, Sarma stated that the bridge would not only improve road connectivity, but also lead to socio-economic development in the entire region. “This bridge will reduce the distance and travel time from West Kameng localities to Assam though Bhairabkunda. Moreover it will add a new dimension to connectivity to Tawang Buddhist monastery, an international tourist destination,” said Sarma, adding that the government had undertaken the implementation of a goodwill project in BTR and already sanctioned Rs 500 crore for construction and other developmental works. Talking about the paddy procurement, Sarma stated that the government had recently procured more than five lakh metric ton paddy from over 43000 farmers at MSP Rs 1940. He also added that the government has decided to hike the daily wages of tea plantation workers. The construction of 2000 Anganwadi centres in the State, raising of five new commando battalions and providing 10 thousand government jobs by next September are also on the card, he added.
