Congress,AIUDF to celebrate Mughals’ 500 years of anniversary: Pabitra Margherita
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- “Congress leader Abdul Khalaque’s soft corner for the Mughals is clearly seen but his attempt to safeguard the Ronghingias under the guise of Bangladeshis is an insult to the Indian culture and history and highly despicable and condemnable. This remark was made by BJP Spokesperson and MP, Pabitra Margherita. Countering the controversial statement made by Congress leader Khalaque to the media, the BJP Spokesperson said Umananda Mandir is a n epitome of sanatan religion down the ages. The images in the temple were built during the Gupta age. The Urvashi or Mayurpankhi island stands in the heart of the Brahmaputra since time immemorial. The important thing is that during the Mughal rule or the Turks destroyed the Umananda temple while Ahom King Swargadeo Gadadhar Singha rebuilt the temple. Even a school student knows that Umananda temple is an intrinsic part of Assam. On the contrary Congress MP Khalaque’s statement that the land for the Umananda temple was donated by Aurangeb is sheer distortion of facts and shows his ignorance of historical knowledge. “How can a land dating back to pre-historic days can be donated by the Mughals who made forays into the country in the 15th Century,” questioned Margherita. Saying that the people want to forget the sordid or painful incidents of history vis-a-vis of jijiya tax, forceful conversation, destruction of holy places of sanatan religion, forcefully taking away of youths to Sultan’s harem, it would be in the words of Khalaque better to talk about the Qutub Minar and the Taj Mahal. After all, in those architectural marvels, like the other parts of India, the resources of Assam were also involved. The sweat and toil of tens of thousands of people irrespective of caste, creed or religion are involved. Margherita said while the Himanta Biswa Sarma led BJP Government will be celebrating the 100th birth anniversary of doyen of culture, Dr Bhupen Hazarika and the 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan this year, let the Congress-AIUDF under the leadership of Abdul Khalaque observe the 500th anniversary of Mughals who came from far off Uzbekistan to establish the Mughal Empire, on 20th April, 2026. On the other, senior BJP Spokesperson, Dr.Muminul Aowal said Congress leader Khalaque will be answerable to the people for his soft hearted attitude towards the Mughals. At a time when the BJP is trying to build a progressive Assam nay India taking all sections of people transcending the barriers of caste, creed or religion, forces like Khalaque, the Congress and AIUDF are trying to destroy the social fabric of the country which is highly condemnable. Khalaque and his ilk who play politics with religion are trying to disturb the society by creating fear and terror in the minds of the minority community. But the age old unity and amity and the indigenous Muslims will never give importance to leaders like Khalaque. The people have witnessed how the edifice of the society have been strengthened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the entire country and in the State of Assam by Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. That is amply exemplified how the BJP mustered the support of all communities from Sadiya to Dhubri to win 77 seats out of 80 seats in the municipal elections.
