Assam Governor attends 21st convocation of Dibrugarh University

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria said, “One of the main aims of education is to achieve holistic physical, mental, and spiritual development of an individual. In the 21st century, the essence of education will continue to be acquiring self-sufficiency for the entire human race.” Speaking at the 21st convocation of Dibrugarh University in the presence of Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar today, Governor Kataria said that Dibrugarh University has been at the forefront of promoting higher education and research in all fields, enriching the lives of its students. Along with utilizing the natural resources of the region, the university has made exceptional contributions to preserve and promote the rich traditional regional knowledge and skills. On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Kaal, the Governor said “We are celebrating Azadi ka Amrit Kaal, and it is time for us to prepare a comprehensive educational roadmap for the future. It is necessary for us to reflect deeply on those issues that concern us as a nation and reassess our priorities. We need to find ways to make ourselves self-reliant. It is time for each of us to commit to work for the progress of our nation.” The Governor also highlighted the importance of NEP 2020 and said the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 is an important step taken in the right direction. It is a crucial step towards fulfilling the needs of 21st-century learners from primary to higher education levels. The National Education Policy 2020 focuses on major improvements in higher education, which will enable the next generation to compete in the new digital age. The Governor also said that the new education policy focuses on five key pillars to achieve the goal of continuous improvement, which are “capacity”, “accessibility”, “quality”, “equity”, and “accountability”. It has been designed to meet the needs of citizens, as regular demand for knowledge is required in society and the economy for new skills. He, on this occasion lauded Dibrugarh University for its efforts to implement NEP 2020 expeditiously and said, it is a matter of happiness that the Dibrugarh University has started the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 through the commencement of a four-year undergraduate program for the university and its affiliated colleges. The curriculum for this program has already been prepared and approved by the academic council. The Governor also talked about the global platform that the university has gained of late and said that Dibrugarh University was one of the 76 selected prestigious institutions of higher education in the country to host and participate in the Connect Program of 20 World Universities, which upholds the idea of “One Earth, One Family, One Future” that embodies the concept of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in line with our Indian values and traditions. The Governor also emphasized on skill based education during his deliberation. He said that in the present generation there is an increasing demand of skill education which can promote entrepreneurial spirit among young people. He also urged the young graduates to come forward for entrepreneurial ventures and said, young people should come forward as entrepreneurs and create job opportunities for others too. It is heartening to know that Dibrugarh University is giving high priority to developing skill-based education for its students, he added. The Governor also said that the value of acquiring skills can be multi-faceted. Therefore, skill acquisition is the paramount necessity for accomplishing entrepreneurial goals. The issue of social inclusion is equally important, particularly in the context of the poor, weaker, and deprived sections. If India is to develop, it should not be at the cost of the poor. The Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameswar Teli, Education Minister of Assam, Dr Ranoj Pegu, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jiten Hazarika, students of the university along with a host of other dignitaries were also present in the convocation. Governor during his visit to Dibrugarh district, also held a review meeting with the district administration. Deputy Commissioner, Biswajit Pegu apprised the Governor of the level of implementation of various Central and State government schemes. The Governor also took stock of of the prevailing law and order situation of the district. The Governor also visited the Bogibeel bridge to look at the connectivity between Dibrugarh and Dhemaji.
