Assam Government to tackle the Flood and Landslide situation  in the State 

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: In view of the current flood and landslide situation in the State,  Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), under the supervision of Chief  Minister, Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma, has further expedited the response and recovery  services by engaging the concerned stakeholders and deployment of additional resources and  support system to the severely affected districts especially Dima Hasao and Barak Valley. 

Some of the major initiatives undertaken in the last 24hrs are: 

  1. A team of 20 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel with all necessary equipments have been air transported today from Guwahati to Haflong, Dima Hasao  for further search and rescue operation of the stranded people.  
  2. The essential food items including rice, daal and other commodities have been air  transported today from Jorhat to Haflong.  
  3. Minister, Housing and Urban Development Affairs, Ashok Singhal visited the flood  affected areas in Cachar district today for stocktaking of the current situation. Singhal said  that those families who couldn’t come to the relief camps but highly placed on road-side or  living in their relative’s houses should be provided relief through Panchayat Secretaries and Lot Mandals. He held series of meetings with the merchant associations of Barak Valley 3  districts to ensure the smooth supply of essential food commodities. The merchant  associations have also assured Singhal of providing the same.  
  4. UNICEF has proposed ASDMA to deploy 7 teams of technical specialists and consultants to  support DDMAs of Cachar, Hojai, Darrang, Biswanath, Nagaon, Morigaon and Dima Hasao to monitor flood relief camps in accordance with the relief camp management SOP, assess  ground situation & needs and supporting relevant stakeholders in strengthening the response. 
  5. Commissioner & Secretary and CEO, ASDMA G.D. Tripathi today reviewed the  current flood situation in the flood affected districts of Assam with the District Project  Officers through a video conference.  

As per the cumulative Flood Report till date, the major points are:  

  1. A total of 7,17,046 populations of 1,929 villages in 29 districts in flood and 5 districts  in landslides have been affected in the State.  
  2. A total of 58,065.29 hectares crop area have been affected in flood.  C. Total 09 human lives (4 in Flood & 5 in Landslide) have been lost in the first phase  of flood in the State.  
  3. A total of 14,550 stranded persons have been evacuated with the help of SDRF,  NDRF and volunteers.  
  4. 217 relief camps and 224 relief distribution centres have been opened in all affected  areas.  
  5. A total of 49,400 inmates are staying in these relief camps.
