27th Dr. Jogiraj Basu Memorial Lecture at DHS Kanoi College

M Hashim Ali, Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- The 27th Dr. Jogiraj Basu Memorial Lecture was held at DHS Kanoi College Group of Assam College Teachers’ Association today. The event was spearheaded by Dr. Chandana Goswami, President, Dibrugarh Hanumanbox Surojmal Kanoi College Group, Assam College Teachers’ Association and organised by Dr. Uttam Mohan, Secretary, DHS Kanoi College Group, Assam College Teachers’ Association, alongside the eminent members of faculty, DHSK College. The Invited Speaker, Professor Dr. Archana Sharma, Retired Professor and Former Head of the Department, Department of Economics, University of Guwahati delivered a lecture on ‘Economics and Philosophy of Prosperity’. Dr. Sharma presented a critique of how economy brings happiness and prosperity to people’s lives analysed from the economic, philosophical and psychological perspectives. The Talk was inaugurated by the former Head of the Department, Department of Chemistry, DHSK College, Dr. Anjali Phukan who spoke exhaustively on the academic and Professional aspects of Dr. Jogiraj Basu. The honourable Principal of the College, Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia, highlighted on the commitment of Dr. Jogiraj Basu towards education and its accessibility to all, and the consequent establishment of the College eighty years back. Dr. Saikia thanked all the students of the College for living up to the values of the great scholar. The Principal said the main purpose of building an educational institution is not only to acquire education or knowledge. An educational institution focuses on building character, increasing empathy and developing a deep understanding of the world around us. The founding principal believed in education as a force for change, he said. He thanked the President and Secretary of the Teachers’ Unit of ACTA for organizing a lecture in the name of such a distinguished person and scholar every year. He paid tribute to Dr. Basu for his outstanding contribution to the field of education and requested everyone to come forward to keep his memory alive. The event was attended by several former members of faculty of the college. The event was attended by Vice-Principal of the college Dr. Priyadev Goswami, Executive Member of Assam College Teachers Association Dr. Dipankoj Gogoi, a number of faculty, staff, several former faculty and hundreds of students. An exchange of views with the keynote speaker was also held in conjunction with the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sayanika Goswami, Department of Sanskrit.
