M Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- The 19th Biennial State Convention of Lekhika Sanstha Assam, organized with the support of the Dibrugarh branch of Lekhika Sanstha and the people of Dibrugarh, concluded with a colorful cultural procession by writers from various districts. The cultural procession was inaugurated by Dr. Shashi kanta Saikia, a distinguished litterateur, President of Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha, and Principal of Dibrugarh Kanoi College. In the cultural procession, Lekhika Sanstha Assam’s President Mridula Sharma, Chief Secretary Vijaya Devadas, Reception Committee President Hemprabha Tasa, Executive President Baijayanti Kaur Gogoi, Chief Secretary Udayanti Hazarika Dutta, and members of Lekhika Sanstha from different branches participated. Dr. Saikia inaugurated the procession and extended his greetings to everyone gathered at the convention from different parts of the state. The open session held in the afternoon was inaugurated by renowned litterateur and former President of Assam Sahitya Sabha, Dr. Nagen Saikia. In his inaugural speech, Dr. Nagen Saikia praised the women and said that, with the arrival of foreigners in India, many women were confined to their homes. To free themselves from this situation, during the time of India’s freedom struggle, not only men but many women participated in the movement. Women were not just involved in the freedom struggle but also contributed in many other areas. These women were freedom fighters who fought without any weapons. Women themselves devised ways to assist the freedom struggle. Not only in this area, but women also adopted various methods to express their emotions, feelings, and culture. Women have made significant contributions to the progress of the nation, its literature, and its culture. Not everyone can do everything, but those with expertise in a particular area should advance in that direction. Dr. Nagen Saikia unveiled “Suchetana”, the official publication of Lekhika Sanstha Assam. The commemorative book “Dibru Garima”, published by the Dibrugarh branch of Lekhika Sanstha, was unveiled by Padma Shri Prahlad Chandra Tasa. In the open session, Dr. Maitreyi Pator, the distinguished author invited for the “Niru Sharma Parajuli Memorial Literary Award”, along with national award-winning teacher and eminent writer Gandheswar Saikia, former Principal of Manohari Devi Kanoi Women’s College Dr. Pratsalata Buragohain, former lecturer of Manohari Devi Kanoi Women’s College Gayatri Devi Goswami, renowned dentist and social worker Dr. Ajay Gogoi, Adviser to Lekhika Sanstha Assam Yugmaya Gogoi, President of Lekhika Sanstha Assam Mridula Sharma, and Reception Committee President Hemprabha Tasa, were present. The session began with the presentation of the report by the Chief Secretary of Lekhika Sanstha Assam, Vijaya Devadas, and a welcome speech by Reception Committee President Hemprabha Tasa. In the session, the “Niru Sharma Parajuli Memorial Literary Award” was conferred on Dr. Maitreyi Pator. The short story collection “Aparajita” by Kanchan Baruah, former secretary of the Dibrugarh branch and distinguished author, was unveiled by Yugmaya Gogoi, Adviser to Lekhika Sanstha Assam. The three-day 19th Biennial State Convention of Lekhika Sanstha Assam concluded successfully with various cultural programs in the evening. Notably, representatives from all districts of the state participated in the state convention, and it was decided that the next session would be held in Mangaldoi.
