SITA take steps to conserve the Heritage sites of Assam using GIS with IIT Guwahati
Dispur,Rongili Barta- State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA) Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka handed over the first installment to Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati today to start its collaborative project “ Annotated Atlas of the Heritage Sites of Assam: Using GIS. The Project is funded by the State Innovation and Transformation Aayog (SITA), Assam and will be implemented by IIT, Guwahati which will be jointly carried out with the Heritage Conservation Society of Assam. The total cost of the said project is Forty Lakhs . At a programme held today at the Indian Institute of Technogy, Guwahati, Hon’ble Vice- Chairman Ramen Deka handed over the demand draft to the officiating Director. IIT Prof. Parameswar K.Iyer. Vice-Chairman Ramen Deka addressing the meeting said that it is our utmost duty to conserve the heritage sites and Geo-tag the heritage centres which he hoped with the collaborative efforts of IIT could help in achieving this crucial project. Vice-Chairman spoke at length about various other projects like solid waste management, control of flashfloods, and Hydrology survey of Brahmaputra which he hoped will be carried out soon with the collaborative effort of IIT, Guwahati. It needs to be mentioned that previously on 30 th January 2023, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between SITA & Indian Institute of Technology,Guwahati at Janata Bhawan, Dispur for the said project “Annotated Atlas of the Heritage sites of Assam: Using GIS” which was signed by CEO Sri M.S Manivannan, IAS on behalf of SITA and Head of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT, Guwahati Smt. Sukanya Sharma on behalf of IIT, Guwahati. Today’s programme was also graced by Co-Vice Chairman Dhruba Prasad Baishya. He delivered a short speech and spoke on the importance of our heritage sites to which he said that if we fail to conserve them, it would be like delinking ourselves with our past. Prof. Parameswar K.Iyer, the Officiating Director, IIT Guwhati also addressed the meeting and thanked SITA for the initiatives in bringing about the project which he says is an important project. Earlier in the meeting, Prof. Sukanya Sharma gave the introductory remarks.
