RGU honours 23 faculty members for Patents and Innovation
Four and a half lacs given as research reward for 35 patents
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: The Assam Royal Global University (RGU) today honoured 23 faculty members for their groundbreaking research across diverse fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Blockchain, Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, the Internet of Things (IoT), Alzheimer’s, and Neural Networks. These faculty members were awarded Rs. 4,50,000 in research rewards for their contributions, which included 35 patents—21 granted and 14 published.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Y.S.R. Murthy, along with other senior officials, presented the faculty members with cash rewards and certificates of appreciation during a ceremony held today. The Royal School of Engineering and Technology stood out as the department with the highest number of patents, filing 18 patents in areas including Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture, Machine Learning, Meteorology, and Traffic Control. Dr. Rashel Sarkar emerged as the star performer, receiving Rs. 1,90,000 in research rewards for his contributions.
Faculty members from the Royal School of Commerce, in collaboration with colleagues from the Royal School of Behavioural and Allied Sciences, filed patents related to tools for effective budget management and anxiety monitoring. Meanwhile, the Royal School of Pharmacy faculty focused on research in chemical compounds, neurotherapy, and immunity-boosting innovations.
Researchers from the Royal School of Biosciences successfully explored the production of banana beer and developed wound healing compositions, the latter in partnership with the Royal School of Pharmacy. Additionally, the Royal School of Architecture worked on social media algorithms, while the Royal School of Humanities and Social Sciences focused on employee performance enhancement tools, data collection, and behavioural science analysis.
Royal Global University, recognized as the ‘Most Eminent Private University of the Northeast,’ has been fostering a strong research and development ecosystem. Recently, its Department of Botany hosted the landmark event, the ‘First Asia Pacific Congress on Alternate Crops,’ which featured renowned Padma Shri awardee Prof. S. K. Sopory, along with distinguished academicians and researchers from around the world, including Prof. Chittaranjan Cole, Prof. Alak Kr. Buragohain, Prof. Wricha Tyagi, Dr. Blanka Vomberger, Prof. Bidyut Sharma, Dr. Tara Satyavarthi, Dr. Jawahir Lal Kaarihaloo, Prof. Ivan Kreft, Prof. Manoj Prasad, and Prof. Manoj Dhar.
The congress covered a wide array of topics, including ‘Alternate Crops for Health and Nutritional Security,’ ‘Accelerating the Domestication of Alternate Crops,’ ‘Breeding Barriers and Crop Diversification in Alternate Crops,’ ‘Value Addition in Alternate Crops,’ ‘Entrepreneurship with Alternate Crops and Foods,’ ‘Alternate Crops as Smart Foods,’ ‘Genetic Diversity and Evolutionary Processes in Alternate Crops,’ and ‘Achieving Nutritional Security through Alternate Crops.’ During the event, Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Prof. Chittaranjan Cole and Prof. Ivan Kreft in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society and the scientific community.
Additionally, Royal Global University recently hosted the prestigious PMSHRI-IDE Bootcamp, a pan-India initiative led by Hon’ble Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi. The program, aimed at nurturing innovation, design, and entrepreneurial skills among student innovators and Innovation Ambassadors from schools, was supported by AICTE, MIC, DoSEL, and NCERT.
