Power department briefs its activities to the Governor

Takes stock of power situation and steps to meet power demand

Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria took briefing of the activities of the Power department in the conference hall of Raj Bhavan today in presence of Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa. Additional Chief Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Power Niraj Verma gave a detailed presentation of the activities of the department. He also gave the Governor an overview of the status of implementation of different schemes, the coverage of electrification and more importantly power generation in the state. The meeting discussed the functions of APDCL,APGCL and AEGCL and the major schemes which in different stages of their implementation. The Governor also took stock of the progress of smart meter installation, rural electrification, demand and supply scenario of power, growth of power consumption. The Governor also took stock of the scope of new and renewable energy generation in the state. The Governor also said that as Assam is on the cusp of major industrialization, the demand of power will be vital. Therefore, he asked the department as well as the Power Companies to be prepared for the higher power demand and take steps accordingly. The meeting was attended by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary to the Governor Swapna Dutta Deka, Managing Director, APDCL Rakesh Kumar, Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Power (Elect.) Department. Gautam Talukdar, Managing Director AEGCL Debajyoti Das, Managing Director, APGCL Bibhu Bhuyan, and other senior officers of the Power department.
