Governor takes stock of activities of Tribal Affairs (Plain) Department

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria today took stock of the implementation of various central and state-sponsored schemes of the Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) at a meeting held at Raj Bhavan. During the session the Principal Secretary of the department, Mukesh Kr Sahu gave a presentation covering the overall working of the department. The Governor said that since Assam is a home to a sizeable number of tribal population, he asked the department to devise strategies for the overall well-being of the tribal population in the state. Recognizing education as a cornerstone for the individual and collective well-being of any community, Shri Kataria urged the department to prioritize academic development. He stressed that by focusing on educational advancement, individuals can be empowered to contribute meaningfully to their communities and society as a whole. Moreover, the Governor reiterated on the importance of an exclusive coaching institute for civil service examination specifically designed for tribal students. He highlighted the need for providing hostel facilities to these students to ensure that the students receive quality education from qualified teachers. The Governor urged the department to closely monitor and regulate these initiatives. Regarding infrastructure development in Integrated Tribal Development Projects (ITDP) in the tribal dominated areas, the Governor stressed on the importance of not only ensuring the quality of infrastructure but also periodically monitoring the living conditions in the areas. The meeting was attended by minister in charge of the department Dr. Ranoj Pegu and other senior officers of the government.
