Governor attends the valedictory ceremony of newly recruited post cocoon technology scientists
Visits Lachit Maidam and pays obeisance to the Ahom General
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the valedictory ceremony of the one-month foundation training program of newly recruited post cocoon technology scientists at Jorhat today. Organized by CMER&TI (Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute), under the aegis of the Central Silk Board, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Kataria extended his heartfelt congratulations to the scientists upon successful completion of their foundation training. He asked the scientists to dedicate their efforts towards the noble cause of national development and to strive towards positioning India as a frontrunner in silk production. He also said that The Central Muga Eri Research & Training Institute, operating under the aegis of the Central Silk Board, has played a pivotal role in advancing the silk industry. He said that the role of the Central Silk Board is largely responsible for ranking India as the second-largest producer of silk globally.
The Governor emphasized that the future of India and its silk industry lie in the hands of the silk scientists and their innovation. While the usage of silk was once limited, its influence now transcends boundaries, making the role of scientists even critical in popularizing the silk industry, the Governor added. He further stated that to propel the silk industry forward, collaboration between educational institutions and industries is essential. This collaborative partnership will provide the necessary momentum to enhance the popularity of silk products, the Governor emphasized.
The Governor further exhorted on the need of creating available market for the silk products of the weavers. He said that both the institute and the government must work together to create potential markets for the exquisite silk products. He said that as India aspires to become a Vishwaguru in the Amrit Kaal, the silk industry’s role is paramount in fulfilling the nation’s aspirations. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the scientists to contribute to nation-building through their role in the silk sector. It may be mentioned that CMER&TI, with its illustrious 75-year legacy, has been a driving force behind India’s global silk production prominence. Established in 1999, the institute has been dedicated to advancing research and development in Vanya Sericulture, particularly in Northeast India. Through patented technologies and extensive training programs, CMER&TI has significantly contributed to the growth of the sericulture sector, particularly in muga, eri, and oak tasar culture.
The valedictory ceremony marked the culmination of the foundation training program for newly inducted scientists, who underwent comprehensive training across mulberry, tasar, muga, and eri sectors. The valedictory ceremony also included a certificate distribution event, recognizing the accomplishments of the scientists and their commitment to excellence in silk production. Vijaya Kumari, Director, CSTRI, Bengaluru Dr. S. Periyaswami, DC Jorhat Pulak Kumar Mahanta, SP Shwetank Mishra, Director of Rain Forest Research Institute, Jorhat Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Director, Muga Eri Silkworm Seed Organization (MESSO), Dr.Kartik Neog along with a host of other dignitaries were present at the function. Later the Governor visited the Lachit Maidam and paid his obeisance to the Ahom General. He also visited the newly erected statue of the Veer Lachit at the maidam premises.
