Dibrugarh Literary Society’s Biennial General Session Concluded: New Committee Formed – Jyoti Borgohain as President and Ratul Gohain as Secretary Elected.
M Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta-  Renowned writer and storyteller Jyoti Borgohain was elected as the President and senior journalist Ratul Gohain as the Secretary of the esteemed Dibrugarh Literary Society. During the biennial general session, a strong new committee was formed. In the biennial session, the Dibrugarh Literary Society awarded the “Shilpa Sadhana Award” to renowned dance artist Ruby Gogoi Handiqu .The full-day program was held at the Dibrugarh Sahitya Sobha Bhawan. The morning session, hosted by Assistant Secretary Yadav Gogoi, began with President Dr. Sashikanta Saikia hoisting the flag, Vice President Bibhas Duwara lighting the lamp, and Secretary Ratul Gohain  performing a memorial tribute. Afterward, the concluding executive meeting was held, where Ratul Gohain presented the work report. In the general meeting chaired by former Secretary Chandan Phukan, district literary society Assistant Secretary Labanu Saikia and Executive Member Dimbeswar Bhuyan attended as observers. In this meeting, distinguished writer, storyteller, and retired principal of Dibrugarh College, Jyoti Borgohain, was unanimously elected President. Ratul Gohain, the General Secretary of the Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, was re-elected as Secretary. Additionally, writer-journalist Yadav Gogoi was chosen as Vice President, forming a 28-member committee. In the afternoon, during the open meeting and award distribution ceremony, the Dibrugarh Sahitya Sobha presented the “Shilpa Sadhana Award-2024” to renowned dancer Ruby Gogoi Handiqu. Ruby Gogoi, who has been dedicated to dance since childhood, has contributed immensely by preserving and promoting Assamese cultural heritage, including Bihu songs, Bihu dances, and Sattriya culture. The Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha honored her with this award for her unparalleled contribution to Assam’s language, literature, and culture. The open meeting was attended by outgoing President and renowned litterateur Dr. Sashikanta Saikia, writer -journalist Chandan Phukan, Vice President of the Dibrugarh Sahitya Sabha Bibhas Duwara, Assistant Secretary of the District Sahitya Sabha Labanu Saikia, Executive Member Dimbeswar Bhuyan, retired professor and renowned lyricist Aradhana Dutta, Editor of Assam Sahitya Sabha’s news, Gautam Gogoi, retired professor Dr. Runuma Sharma, General Secretary of the Assam Jatiyatabadi Yova satra parisad Udayan Kumar Gogoi, and prominent social worker-businessman Ranjit Gogoi, among others.
