Chief Electoral Officer submits results of Assam Legislative Assembly Elections 2026 to Governor

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: The Chief Electoral Officer of Assam, Anurag Goel, today met Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan and formally submitted the results of the General Election to the Assam Legislative Assembly, 2026.

Assam went to polls for all 126 Legislative Assembly Constituencies in a single phase on April 9, 2026. The counting of votes was conducted on May 4, 2026, in accordance with the guidelines and procedures laid down by the Election Commission of India.

The Chief Electoral Officer apprised the Governor of the successful and peaceful conduct of the electoral process across the state. He highlighted that the elections were carried out with full adherence to electoral laws, ensuring transparency, inclusiveness, and integrity at every stage.

Governor Sri Acharya acknowledged the efforts of the election machinery, district administration, security personnel, and all stakeholders involved in the smooth conduct of the elections. He lauded the commitment of officials and the enthusiastic participation of voters across all 35 districts of the state in strengthening the democratic process.

It may be recalled that as recommended by the Election Commission of India, in pursuance of sub-section (2) of Section 15 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, the Governor of Assam had called upon all the electorate of Assembly Constituencies in the State of Assam to elect members to the Legislative Assembly of the State and accordingly elections were held.

Principal Secretary, Election Commission of India (ECI), Malay Mallick, Secretary ECI Rajiv Ranjan, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor SS Meenakshi Sundaram and others were present on the occasion.
