Assam Governor attends 20th Convocation of Tezpur University

Hails university’s role in nation building 

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that Tezpur University’s role in the process of nation-building is of utmost importance. The university is disseminating knowledge, honing skills and encouraging research, which are largely responsible for the all-round progress of the nation.  Presiding over the 20th convocation of the university in Tezpur today, the Governor said that Tezpur University has been able to establish itself as an institution of repute within a relatively short span of time by making significant contributions in various academic fields. This is evident from the impactful scientific research and the works of community development carried out by its faculty and researchers in recent times, the Governor added.  He further said that It is indeed satisfying to note that the faculty of Tezpur University are undertaking socially relevant researches in the areas like, removal of arsenic and fluoride in drinking water, solar and biogas as renewable energy sources, development of reductionist and holistic approaches for handling critical diseases, documentation of endangered languages, preservation and restoration of artifacts in Vaishnavite monasteries and digital archiving of cultural resources of the region. Stating an example, the Governor said that the university uses folklore for community messaging in collaboration with UNICEF and Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in different schools of Assam. Groundbreaking research in the field of medical equipment in the form of IoT based Low Cost Portable Ventilator, Intelligent Helmet System, Prosthetic Hand etc. were also achieved. The Governor further said that in recognition to the exceptional achievement, Tezpur University has recently been accredited the A+ grade by NAAC during its fourth assessment cycle in 2022. The University had won the Visitor’s Best University Award in 2016 and was ranked among the Times Higher Education 20 best small Universities in the world in 2018. He expressed hope that this university sets new records in higher education not only in India but also on the global stage.  Prof. Mukhi said that since Tezpur University was created as a result of the Assam Movement which was a manifestation of the identity consciousness of the people of this region, the university remains strongly committed towards local needs and aspirations. He however, said that simultaneously, as a modern institute of higher education, the university must be able to attain global standards of teaching and research.  It may be noted that as many as 1352 awardees received their degrees and diplomas in the convocation.
