Assam Cabinet Minister Sri Ashwini Ray Sarkar Inspects Flood Protection Works at Pub Gaikhowa Pt II; Assures Permanent Scheme Sanction Soon
Minister reviews ongoing temporary riverbank protection works being executed in full swing by Water Resources Department in Dhubri district.
DHUBRI,Rongili Barta: The Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Soil Conservation, and Welfare of Minorities & Development, Government of Assam, Sri Ashwini Ray Sarkar, today visited the highly vulnerable erosion-prone area of Pub Gaikhowa Pt II under Dhubri-Gauripur jurisdiction. During the visit, the Minister personally reviewed the ongoing temporary protection works, which are currently being executed in full swing to arrest river bank erosion and protect the local community from the seasonal fury of the river system.

Sri Ashwini Ray Sarkar was accompanied on the inspection by the Executive Engineer of the Dhubri Water Resources (WR) Division, the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Dhubri Gauripur WR Sub-District, along with departmental field staff and local community representatives. The technical team briefed the Minister on the progress of the temporary riverbank stabilization, which includes laying geobag revetments and setting up bamboo porcupines to divert river current velocity away from the vulnerable banks of the Gangadhar river.

While these temporary protection works are being executed in full swing to provide immediate relief and security during the high-flow season, a comprehensive project for permanent protection of the Pub Gaikhowa area will be sanctioned shortly. I have instructed the Water Resources Department to finalize the Detailed Project Report (DPR) on a priority basis to ensure long-term stability and peace of mind for the local residents.”

- Review of Shoreline Stabilization: The Minister inspected the critical points at Pub Gaikhowa Pt II where heavy riverbank erosion has historically threatened local agricultural lands and households.
- On-the-Spot Directives: Sri Ashwini Ray Sarkar instructed the Dhubri Water Resources Division engineers to ensure round-the-clock monitoring and maintain top quality in the implementation of the temporary geobag works.
- Permanent Solution Committed: Addressed local residents directly to assure them that a permanent, scientifically designed protection scheme is undergoing fast-tracked administrative and technical evaluation for immediate sanction.
