Governor calls for a drug-free and value-based youth to realise the vision of Viksit Bharat
100-week nationwide campaign against substance abuse launched
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended a programme in Varanasi today organised on the occasion of the nationwide launch of the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign, initiated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The programme was organised to mark the beginning of a 100-week nationwide mass movement aimed at eliminating substance abuse and inspiring the youth to actively contribute towards building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya described the campaign as a national mission to build a generation of healthy, disciplined, value-based and patriotic youth capable of leading India towards the goal of a Viksit Bharat. Referring to the 100-week campaign, he said that the sustained nationwide effort would help create long-term awareness, encourage behavioural change and strengthen community participation in the fight against drug abuse. He added that a drug-free society is a national responsibility and stressed that the country’s demographic strength can be fully realised only when its youth are free from substance abuse and guided by strong moral values.
Highlighting the importance of collective action, Governor Shri Acharya underscored the need to transform public participation into a nationwide people’s movement involving families, educational institutions, religious organisations and community groups. Sharing Assam’s experience, he observed that social awareness, community participation and value-based guidance have played a significant role in addressing the menace of substance abuse in many parts of the Northeast.
Pursuant to the directions of the Governor in his capacity as Chancellor of the universities, various higher educational institutions across Assam attended the live streaming of the Prime Minister’s address on ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’. Students, teachers and other members of the academic community participated in the programme, reaffirming their commitment to the 100-week national campaign and the larger mission of building a drug-free, healthy and responsible society.
Referring to the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, Shri Acharya said that India’s socio-cultural unity is strengthened when its youth remain rooted in values and dedicated to national service. He also urged young people to use digital platforms responsibly to spread awareness, positivity and the message of a drug-free society.
The Governor appreciated the sustained efforts of the Gayatri Pariwar, the organizer of the programme in Varanasi in promoting character-building and value-based education and expressed confidence that the 100-week ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ campaign would grow into a vibrant nationwide movement through active public participation, making a meaningful contribution to the vision of a Viksit and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
