Governor chairs meeting with Vice Chancellors to mobilise youth for ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ initiative
Governor expresses hope that the youth of Assam will play a decisive role in translating national resolve of a Nasha Mukt Bharat
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: With the objective of transforming the ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ initiative into a nationwide people’s movement, Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today chaired a meeting in hybrid mode with the Vice Chancellors of all universities of the State at Lok Bhavan.
The campaign, scheduled to commence on 2 August for a duration of 100 weeks under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, seeks to foster a drug-free, healthy and empowered India through active youth participation.
Highlighting the significance of the campaign, Governor Shri Acharya said that substance abuse not only destroys individual lives but also weakens families, communities and the nation’s future. He emphasized that educational institutions should play a leading role in creating awareness, promoting positive values and steering young people away from addiction while maintaining that a drug-free youth population is indispensable for building a healthy, disciplined and self-reliant society.
During the meeting, the Governor requested all Vice Chancellors to take proactive measures to ensure maximum participation of students in the campaign through the MY Bharat platform. He emphasized that universities have a pivotal role in inspiring young minds to become ambassadors of a drug-free society and contribute meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Bharat.
The Governor stated that the active involvement of youth is the greatest strength in building a healthy, responsible and addiction-free nation. Expressing confidence in the youth of Assam, he said that they would play a leading role in translating the national resolve of a Nasha Mukt Bharat into reality.
Further, as part of the Governor’s initiative to build a strong and sustainable Industry–Academia ecosystem in Assam, Lok Bhavan also convened a meeting in hybrid mode with the Vice Chancellors of State Universities.
During the meeting, OSD to the Governor, Prof. Bechan Lal, focused on identifying the core strengths and opportunities of universities, fostering meaningful engagement with industries, and bridging the gap between academic outcomes and industry requirements. The discussions also explored potential areas of collaboration to enhance innovation, research, skill development and graduate employability across the State. The meeting forms part of Lok Bhavan’s ongoing consultations with key stakeholders, including Government agencies, industry associations, Assam Skill University and start-up incubators in its bid to forge academia-industry bond to prepare the students in the academic institutions to fulfill the needs of the industries.
