Traditional Wrestling to receive new energy 

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: In a major decision taken by the National Federation of  Traditional Wrestling Association, India, Sri Ashwini Ray Sarkar has been appointed as the  chairman of North East Traditional Wrestling Federation by Sri Sudesh Kumar, chairman of the  national federation. He has also been nominated as a national member of the federation the  same day. 

Keeping with the center’s policy to boost the traditional sports sector of the country, the National  Federation of Traditional Wrestling is engaged in reviving, preserving, and promoting indigenous  wrestling disciplines. This new leadership is poised to provide a structured platform for athletes  in the North East, ensuring they receive the necessary infrastructure, training, and opportunities  to excel at both national and international levels. 

“It is a privilege to take on this role to promote traditional wrestling in the North East. Our region  has immense talent, and we will work tirelessly to give these traditional sports new energy,  ensuring they receive national prominence and support under the vision of Hon’ble Prime  Minister Sri Narendra Modi’s focus on indigenous sports.”  

“We will establish standard training protocols, organize regional championships, and discover  grassroots wrestling talents from across the North Eastern states,” the Minister added. 

The North East Traditional Wrestling Federation plans to lay down a comprehensive  development roadmap. This includes organizing inter-state traditional wrestling championships,  conducting talent hunts in rural districts, and standardizing native formats such as *Inbuan*  (Mizo wrestling) and *Mukna* (Manipuri wrestling) to make them highly competitive while  preserving their rich cultural heritage. 

This appointment marks a significant step forward in preserving the cultural sports heritage of  the North East, promising a brighter future for traditional wrestlers in the region.
