Governor attends “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” held under Sewa Sankalp Saptah
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended a programme on “Nasha- mukt Bharat” organised as a part of Sewa Sankalp Saptah at the KBR Auditorium of Cotton University today.

The event has been organised by Lok Bhavan, Assam in association with the Cotton University and included a prize distribution ceremony to recognize student participation in the awareness initiative.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya stressed on the grave dangers posed by drugs, alcohol, and other addictive substances especially on the youth. He emphasised that addiction harms not only individuals but also families and society at large, weakening the moral and social fabric of the nation. He called for proactive community engagement, and sustained awareness to effectively counter the menace.

Highlighting the importance of self-discipline and inner strength, the Governor referred to the timeless wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, underscoring that self-control and conscious efforts are essential to overcoming destructive tendencies. He stated that addiction diverts individuals from their inherent potential and urged young people to channel their energy towards constructive pursuits.
Governor Shri Acharya observed that substance abuse is a grave challenge to national progress, particularly when it affects the youth. Citing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he stated that the energy of India’s youth, when directed positively, can achieve transformative development. He described the “Nasha-mukt Bharat” campaign as a collective national resolve to safeguard the human resources.

He further stressed the relevance of India’s knowledge traditions in addressing contemporary challenges like substance abuse. The Governor said that practices such as yoga and meditation etc, which enhance mental resilience can address the challenge. He encouraged students to take sports, creative arts, skill development, and community service as meaningful alternatives that nurture discipline and confidence.
The Governor in the context also underlined the vital role of families, educational institutions, civil society organisations, and law enforcement agencies in creating a supportive and vigilant environment. He advocated for a compassionate approach towards individuals struggling with addiction, emphasising rehabilitation, counselling, and dignified reintegration into society.

Expressing appreciation for the Cotton University and participants, the Governor conveyed his best wishes for the continued success of the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” and reaffirmed the collective commitment to building a healthy, empowered, and drug-free India.
It may be noted that as part of the awareness initiative, students actively participated in slogan writing and poster making competitions centered on the theme of a Nasha-Mukt Bharat. The Governor felicitated the winners and commended the creativity and social responsibility of the students.

The programme was attended by Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram; Registrar (i/c) of Cotton University, Dr. Hiren Deka; Dean of the University, Prof. Shantanu Sharma, DCP Guwahati Central Sambhavi Mishra, Addl. Director of Narcotics Control Bureau Guwahati Zonal unit Prakash Ranjan Mishra along with faculty members, and students of the University and officers of Lok Bhavan.
