Governor leads state in celebrating Constitution Day
Appeals citizens to value Fundamental Duties to contribute to the realization of Viksit Bharat
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam has joined the rest of the nation as Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, led the state in celebrating Constitution Day marking the adoption of the Constitution of India at programme held at Raj Bhavan here today.
Paying rich tributes to the makers of the Constitution, Governor Shri Acharya extending his warm greetings to all said, “Constitution Day is not merely a date on the calendar, it is a celebration of national pride, self-respect and collective consciousness”. He said that the Constitution day marked a solemn and proud observance of India’s constitutional heritage. He said that celebration of the event this year assumed greater importance because of the fact that the nation is celebrating the culmination of the year-long celebration of 75 years of the adoption of the Constitution.

Shri Acharya expressed satisfaction that the Central government has decided to celebrate Constitution Day with extensive public participation under the theme Hamara Sambhidhan – Hamara Swabhimaan. Reflecting on the historic significance of November 26, the Governor said that the Constituent Assembly created history on this very day. He noted that the Constitution was adopted with the sacred words “We, the People of India is not merely a document but the mirror of India’s soul, guaranteeing liberty, dignity and equal opportunities to all citizens.
Shri Acharya offered respectful homage to Dr. Rajendra Prasad, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the members of the Constituent Assembly, and all other personalities who worked tirelessly behind the scenes, including Shri B. N. Rau, Shri H. V. R. Iyengar, Shri S. N. Mukherjee, and Shri Jugal Kishore Khanna. He also remembered the invaluable contributions of the fifteen distinguished women members who were the parts of the Constituent Assembly.
Speaking on national progress, the Governor noted that as India celebrated 75 years of Independence with the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the nation is now approaching the 75th anniversary of becoming a Republic. Such milestones, he said, provide an opportunity for deep reflection on achievements, as well as future aspirations of the countrymen.

The Governor emphasized that the ideals of Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity enshrined in the Constitution are rooted in India’s civilizational values and continue to guide its democratic journey. He acknowledged several landmark decisions taken under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, granting constitutional status to the National Commission for Backward Classes, and the transformative Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyamo, which have strengthened India’s democratic framework.
Highlighting Assam’s progress, Shri Acharya praised the initiatives such as Orunodoi, MMUA, Nijut Moina, etc undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said that these schemes have reaffirmed the state’s commitment to inclusive development and social justice. He observed that Assam is making rapid progress across sectors including infrastructure, health, education, livelihood, and security.

Underscoring the importance of citizens’ roles, the Governor said the Constitution truly comes alive when the Executive, Legislature, Judiciary, and every citizen uphold its ideals. He reminded that along with rights, the Constitution also emphasizes fundamental duties promoting unity, respecting women, preserving the environment, maintaining scientific temper, protecting public property, and contributing to national advancement. Shri Acharya noted that Constitution Day inspires young citizens to learn, reflect, and internalize constitutional values, thereby strengthening confidence in India’s bright future.
On the occasion, the Governor also appealed to the people of Assam to faithfully uphold constitutional ideals, fulfill their fundamental duties, and contribute collectively to building a Viksit Bharat by 2047.
The programme was attended by Minister Panchayat and Rural Development Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Minister for Handloom, Textiles and Sericulture, U G Brahma, Addl. Chief Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Biswaranjan Samal along with a host of other dignitaries.
