All Assam Writing Competition Marks 87th Death Anniversary of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbarua
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- On the occasion of the 87th death anniversary of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbarua, the Axomiya Yuva Jagaran Samiti in association with Creative Talents successfully organised an All Assam Writing Competition on 26th March, 2025. The prize distribution ceremony was held on 7th September, 2025 at Helping Hand Old Age Home, Lalmati.
The competition drew wide participation, with 30 contestants from across Assam, representing districts including Dibrugarh, Nagaon, Nalbari, Golaghat, Tamulpur, Kamrup etc. Participants included Naren Saikia, Jyotishmita Bora, Himadri Mudoi, Hillol Bharadwaz, Kuldeep Kalita, Dikshit Das, Dimon Bhuyan, Gauri Pawan Borah, Ankit Bharali, Monuj Saikia, Kankana Goswami, Santanu Kaushik Sarma, Niskamana Asomiya, Pankaj Chakraborty, Kishore Kalita, Priyambada Kashyap, Abhiraj Dutta, Manasi Gohain, Riyarani Thakuria, Mehek Ali, Kangkana Bora, Bhaswati Kaushik, Utpal Borkataki, Rituraj Saikia, Mridusmita Bhattacharya, Satanjiba Handique, Prakash Dutta, Priyanka Baishya, Jurani Priya Bora and Satabdi Sarma.
The event featured three categories—Short Story, Poetry and Article—and was judged by an eminent panel comprising Lt. Sudipta Mahanta, great-granddaughter of noted writer and freedom fighter Mitradev Mahanta; Mrigakhy Laram Deka Raja who is the former General Secretary, Cotton University (Nabeen), Rastrapati Awardee and cultural contributor & Susmita Talukdar; filmmaker, writer and ex-All India Radio announcer.
In the Poetry section, Prakash Dutta secured the first position, followed by Jurani Priya Bora and Satabdi Sarma. Judges’ Special Awards were conferred upon G.R. Bhaswati Kaushik and Rituraj Saikia. In the Short Story category, Mansi Gohain bagged the top spot, while Mridusmita Bhattacharya and Rituraj Saikia stood second and third respectively, with special mentions to Prakash Dutta and Diman Bhuyan. In the Article category, Priyanka Baishya was declared winner, with Santanu Kaushik Sarma and Kishore Kalita taking second and third positions.
The prize distribution ceremony was graced by distinguished chief guests—Sri Ashish Kapinjal; Assistant Manager of the Assam Financial Corporation (Legal & Recovery Department), filmmaker Sri Pulak Kumar Das and actress Sri Twinkle Devi. Sponsors included Devasish Talukdar (Founder President, Axomiya Yuva Jagaran Samiti), Trishna Surekha, Akash Hazarika, Jintu Choudhury (I.T. Secretary of Axomiya Yuva Jagaran Samiti), Nikunja Sharma, Dr. Chandana Boro and Dhanjit Talukdar; founder of Helping Hand Old Age Home, which hosted the event. Volunteers Tushar Goswami, Dimpu Kalita, Juman Sarma and Biplab Kalita contributed towards the smooth conduct of the programme.
The event was anchored by Nikunja Sharma, Founder of Creative Talents and Founder Joint Secretary, Literature Secretary & Treasurer of Axomiya Yuva Jagaran Samiti, who also delivered the welcome speech. The proceedings included lamp lighting by the guests, felicitation of dignitaries, a quiz session, literary presentations by participants and the launch of Sharma’s book “Breaking the Silence: A Journey of Mine.”
As a fitting tribute to the 100th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the gathering concluded with a heartfelt rendition of his immortal song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”, symbolising humanism, compassion and unity. This musical homage added profound emotional depth to the occasion, blending literature, culture and music into one harmonious celebration.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks, felicitation of volunteers and a community lunch, leaving behind a strong message of preserving Assam’s rich cultural and literary heritage.
