Governor attends celebrations of Ram Janmotsav

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the celebration of Ram Janmotsav at Sri Sri Madhavdev International Auditorium here. The event was organized by Luit-Gist Communication and Educational Trust.

Addressing the assembly, Shri Acharya expressed his joy in attending the celebration of Ram Janmotsav emphasizing that the occasion is more than just a festival. It is a moment to reflect upon and cherish the timeless values that Lord Ram embodied throughout his life- values of sacrifice, righteousness, truth, and duty, which continue to inspire and guide millions of people.

The Governor highlighted the sacred significance of the land where the celebration was taking place, noting that it is not only the holy soil of Maa Kamakhya but also a place enriched by the teachings of great saints like Srimanta Sankardev and Shri Shri Madhavdev. He acknowledged the rich tradition of Ramkatha in Assam, mentioning that the 14th-century Assamese poet Madhav Kandali was the first to translate the Valmiki Ramayana into Assamese, a version known as the Saptakanda Ramayana.

Shri Acharya further highlighted that Lord Shri Ram is a symbol of moral and cultural values that transcend time and generations. His life serves as an enduring example of how to live with integrity, fulfill responsibilities towards one’s family, society, and nation,  while upholding dignity and discipline.

Governor Shri Acharya also said how the life of Lord Shri Ram serves as an inspiration for the youth, particularly in challenging times. He urged the younger generation to embrace the virtues of patience, dedication, and adherence to moral principles that Lord Ram exemplified. The Governor called for more integration of education with moral values to ensure that India continues its journey towards becoming a prosperous, powerful, and advanced nation.

He emphasized that true devotion to Lord Ram is demonstrated through the services rendered to the poor, marginalized, and underprivileged, upholding the dignity of women, protecting the environment, and promoting the welfare of society.

The Governor  also spoke on the foundational values of India — truth, non-violence, compassion, and humanity – which are enshrined in ancient scriptures such as the Vedas, Upanishads, Gita, and Ramayana. He reiterated that these principles of tolerance, mutual respect, and ethics are the tenets as to why India has always given the world the message of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and Sarva Dharma Sambhav (equality of all religions).

As India moves towards a “New India,” Shri Acharya expressed confidence that the nation would continue to be guided by its rich traditions. He also praised the efforts of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, noting that the Prime Minister’s leadership has ensured that India’s spiritual and cultural values remain a source of strength and identity on the global stage.

Litterateur and Convenor of the Bodo Advisory Board Akademi Taren Chandra Boro, former President of Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr. Suryakanta Hazarika, social worker Hari Charan Sharma, Secretary  of Epic Study Centre, Jorhat Dr. Malini along with a host of other dignitaries were present in the occasion.
