Successful Completion of One-Day Workshop on Vermicomposting, Solid Waste Management, and Rainwater Harvesting at DHSK Commerce College
M Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- The ECO Club of Dibrugarh Hanumanbox Surojmol Kanoi Commerce College, (DHSK)Dibrugarh, successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Vermicomposting, Solid Waste Management, and Rainwater Harvesting” at the L.P. Dutt Library Conference Hall. The event, held on 11th February, saw active participation from students, teachers, and faculty from several schools in the town. The workshop was inaugurated by the Principal In-charge, Sailen Gogoi, who welcomed the gathering and delivered an insightful welcome speech, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices for environmental conservation. Three distinguished resource persons were invited to share their expertise on the topics of the workshop. Dr. Pranab Jyoti Gogoi, Associate Professor, Department of Geology, Dibru College, spoke on the significance of rainwater harvesting. He explained the benefits of this practice and why it is crucial for preserving water resources in the region. Dr. Viviyaan Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Dibru College, focused on Vermicomposting, explaining the process in detail. He also highlighted how Vermicomposting not only helps in waste management but can also be a source of income by utilizing the compost products commercially. In the final session, Smti. Devarshree Chakraborty, Teacher at Little Flower HS School, delivered an engaging talk on Solid Waste Management. She provided practical examples of how solid waste can be reused in everyday life, offering solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable environment.The program was hosted by Bani Kachari, one of the coordinators of the ECO Club, with support from fellow coordinators Keshabananda Haloi and Dr. Ajit Goswami. The event was graced by several faculty members, office staff, and the participants, including students and teachers from seven schools in Dibrugarh town.The workshop was a great success in raising awareness and promoting sustainable environmental practices among the participants, marking a significant contribution by the ECO Club of DHSK Commerce College in environmental education.
