One more journalist killed in Pakistan,
PEC condemns and demands fair probe

Geneva,Rongili Barta-  Another Pakistani journalist has been killed and this time it happens in Sindh province. Muhammad Bachal Ghunio, a reporter for Awaaz Television, was shot dead at Rounti area on 26 August by the miscreants. The victim’s family members lodged a protest demonstration in front of the senior police officer’s office in Mirpur Mathelo. Sindh chief minister Murad Ali Shah condoled his demise and directed the police to nab the culprits. Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), the global media safety and rights organization, expresses utter dismay over the relentless killing of journalists in the south Asian country. PEC president Blaise Lempen exclaimed that a country of around 250 million population has recorded nine journo-murders till date this year. He urged the highest government authority in Islamabad to investigate all relevant cases to unearth the truth and punish the culprits involved with the murder of all scribes in Pakistan. PEC’s south and southeast Asia representative Nava Thakuria revealed that prior to Bachal Ghunio, Pakistan lost eight journalists namely Malik Hassan Zaib, Khalil Afridi Jibran, Nasrullah Gadani, Kamran Dawar, Mehar Ashfaq Siyal, Maulana Mohammad Siddique Mengal, Jam Saghir Ahmad Lar and Tahira Nosheen Rana to assailants since 1 January 2024. Its neighbour India witnessed the killing of two journalists namely Shivshankar Jha and Ashutosh Shrivastava within this period.
