Governor attends Gangaur Teej Mahotsav
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the Gangaur Teej Mahotsav organized by Shri Gangaur Teej Mahotsav Samity at Fancy bazaar in the city here. Speaking at the programme, Governor Shri Kataria said that India is a treasure trove of several colourful cultures that find their manifestations through different festivals. Gangaur Teej Mahotsav is one such festival which showcases the rich culture of India. The Governor said that though the festival is not so much familiar with the people of this part of the country, it (Gangaur Teej) plays a crucial role in preserving and transmitting the rich cultural heritage to the younger generations. The Governor however, said that in the era of globalization when science and technology are ruling the roost, people are gradually forgetting their folk culture. Therefore, it is necessary to preserve and promote folk culture and traditions through the celebrations of festivals. The older generation will have to take the responsibility to promote the culture of the nation through celebrations of festivals. This is how a link can be established between our culture and younger generations”, the Governor added. The Governor expressed happiness that the Rajasthani Samaj remains deeply connected to its roots, valuing and celebrating festivals to promote culture of the land. He also thanked the Samaj for celebrating Ganguar Teej along with the local festivals. This according to the Governor would go a long way in maintaining the unity and integrity of the country. It may be mentioned that the Gangaur festival holds a great significance for the married women as they worship Goddess Parvati for the healthy life of their husbands and healthy conjugal relationship. Unmarried girls participate in the worship of Gangaur celebrations to get an understanding of the spirit of the festival. The festival Gangaur is linked to the endless happiness of sacred married life. It may also be noted that Gangaur is a folk festival, which has a mythological background. Governor Shri Kataria also said that India is a country with social and cultural diversity. The philosophy of this diversity is visible in Indian festivals and celebrations. Different communities, societies, communities and cultures celebrate festivals in their own ways.
