Governor attends Vijaya sammelan

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria attended the Vijaya Sammelan programme organised by the Bangla Sahitya Sabha, Assam at Karmashree Hiteshwar Saikia auditorium in the city. Speaking at the function, the Governor said that Vijay Dashami is an integral part of Indian culture. Vijaya Dashami marks the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. Therefore, it marks the triumph of good over evil, symbolising the victory of Lord Rama. “It is our moral and social responsibility to convey the essence of this age-old culture to the younger generation to enable our youth to associate themselves with the crux of our culture.   Therefore, celebrating Vijay Dashami becomes all the more important”, the Governor added. Lauding the initiatives of the Bangla Sahitya Sabha, the Governor said that Sahitya Sabhas are important for promoting literature and culture of the diverse country.  Literature is considered as a mirror of society. There is a deep connection between society and literature. It always plays a vital role in shaping and developing a society. The significance of literature lies in its ability to present and fulfil the aims and aspirations of the society. The Governor also hailed the Bangla Sahitya Sabha for honouring some eminent personalities who have contributed to the betterment of the society. He said that such initiatives bring forth positive developments to the society.  The programme was attended among others by Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Ruhul Amin, President Bangla Sahitya Sabha Khagen Chandra Das, and General Secretary Dr. Prashanta Chakraborty and host of other dignitaries.
