SAMAHAR Natya Gosthee Donates Woollen Sweaters to Poor School Students in Three Districts

Guwahati, Rongili Barta- It is the resolve of people that rebuilds the confidence of mankind since its existence whenever people are in distress. Keeping this in mind, leading theatre group SAMAHAR Natya Gosthee along with its well-wishers from across the country has come forward to support the poor and needy students in government-run Assamese medium schools. Equipped with assistance from a number of people, the organization donated full-sleeved woollen sweaters to nearly 500 students studying in four government schools across three districts during January 2023. The drive started on January 2 in Barpeta and concluded on January 30 in Kamrup Metropolitan district. After coming to know that many government school children were attending classes without any warm clothes during the harsh winter only because their parents cannot afford to buy sweaters. SAMAHAR decided to help these kids despite its very limited strength and resources. The group made an appeal on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, where it received very encouraging response. Though initially the theatre group thought of distributing sweaters to only one school, it got unexpectedly overwhelming support and received almost double funds than its requirement to give sweaters to one school. So, SAMAHAR extended the drive to three more Assamese medium government schools where poor students are studying and their parents are not capable of giving them a piece of woollens. The gesture of the netizens shows that humanity is still alive! The first school where SAMAHAR donated sweaters was Katajhar Higher Secondary School in Barpeta district. Sweaters were given to all the 250 students of the LP section of the school. The second school was Namati Vidyapith Higher Secondary School in Nalbari district, where sweaters were handed over to 133 poor students studying in LP and ME sections. The next two schools wereBarpak Lower Primary School and Malaybari Lower Primary School in Kamrup Metropolitan district. The theatre group donated sweaters to all the 43 students of Barpak LP School and 44 students of Malaybari LP School. During the month-long distribution exercise, eminent theatre personality and SAMAHAR Natya Gosthee General Secretary Dr Sitanath Lahkar along with other members Trideep Lahkar, Kumud Talukdar, Dhrubajyoti Sarma and Anupama Das visited the schools and handed over the sweaters. SAMAHAR appeals to all people and organisations, in whatever capacities they can, to come forward and help the needy students in their struggle to get education.
