Samarthanam Trust presents ambulance to Indian Red Cross Society, Assam branch

Reiterates his government’s commitment to expedite welfare of specially abled people

Guwahati, September 13: In a move to strengthen the health infrastructure and  respond to the humanitarian needs both in emergencies as well as in day to day support of the people in need, an ambulance of Samarthanam has been presented to Indian Red Cross SocietyAssam State branch with a support of the Air Bus India. The life support vehicle was received by the Governor of Assam  Prof. Jagdish Mukhi, who is also the President of Indian Red Cross Society, Assam in Raj Bhavan today.

On receiving the ambulance, the Governor thanked the organisation and also lauded it for putting up a humanitarian show to touch the lives of specially abled persons.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the non-government organizations and some private sectors are doing a commendable job in the health and education sectors. Their commitment and dedication to serve the society is praise worthy. There are many social welfare projects which are being carried out by the NGOs and other similar groups which have proved to be a boon to the society time and again. Samarthanam is one such organization which is working to mitigate the sufferings of the people by its timely intervention.

During his speech, the Governor said that the State government has decided to set up a separate and dedicated institution ‘The Directorate for Social Justice and Empowerment’ to address the wellbeing of the elderly and the needs of the specially abled persons in a focussed manner.

It may be mentioned that Samarthanam is a Trust for the specially abled persons, founded in 1997. It is serving the persons with disabilities by providing quality education, accommodation, nutritious food, vocational training and placement-based rehabilitation.

Member of Samarthanam Trust Satish Kumar, Vice President Red cross Society, Assam, Monalisha Goswami, Vice-Chairman Red Cross Society, Assam State Branch Biren Sonowal, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram and officers and staff of Indian Red Cross Society, Assam and Raj Bhavan were also present in the function.
