“Recruitment of around 20,000 teachers for Teachers’ Training Programme”: Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Minister of Education, Government of Assam
ROYAL GLOBAL UNIVERSITY HOSTS ELTAI CONFERENCE
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: The Education Minister of Assam Dr. Pegu, announced that the state government plans to give a boost to teacher training in the areas of English, and Media and Information Literacy, for which around 20,000 Teacher Educators will be recruited.
This announcement was made by Dr. Pegu in his Inaugural speech at the 18th International and 54th Annual Conference of English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI) at The Assam Royal Global University on 23rd October, 2024. This prestigious event is being jointly hosted by the Department of English, Royal School of Languages, Royal Global University, and the Department of English, Sonapur College from the 23rd to 26th October, 2024.
Recalling the contributions of Lt. Padma Shri Natrajan, the Founder of ELTAI, emphasized the important role of English as the Lingua Franca of the world. He highlighted the role of neuroscience in language learning and called for embracing multilingualism and digitization as the world order of the 21st century. English language, he said, aids the world in overcoming the boundaries of regional linguistics, caste, creed, nationality and other aspects that are characteristics of a globalized society.
He further shared the importance of learning the origin and evolution of languages and the words therein in order to attain ‘Brahma’ or true knowledge of the subject, and etymology as a field. Dr. Pegu encouraged members of the English Language Teachers’ Association of India (ELTAI) to document their experiences of English Teaching and shape this association into one that encourages research and helps overcome challenges faced in the learning process. He welcomed them to suggest methodology and design of curriculum for the language as a subject in schools and Higher Educational Institutions, such that it is a continuous process of collaborative learning, and relevant outcomes from further sessions of this International Conference, promising accommodation of the suitable by the department.
Dr. A.K. Pansari, the Chancellor of Royal Global University, Professor YSR Murthy, Vice Chancellor, Royal Global University, Prof. T. Kumari Kharbamon, the National President of English Language Teachers Association and also the Vice Chancellor of Martin Luther King University, Mr. Sravan Kumar, National Vice President of ELTAI, Doctor Ms. Jaivyar Pradeep Singh, National Secretary of ELTAI, Dr. Devobrat Khanikar, Principal of Sonapurr College, Prof. (Dr.) Rabindra Kumar Bhaimulla, Director, EFL University, Shillong, Mr. Naresh Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Kendriya, Vidyalay Sangathan and Ms. Nijora Hazarika of Department of English, Sonapur College participated in the inaugural ceremony. Many speakers from across different parts of India and a few international delegates are participants at the three-day conference.
