Governor takes briefings of Irrigation, Information Technology and Science, Technology and Climate Change Departments

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria chaired a series of meetings with three key departments namely Irrigation, Information Technology, and Science, Technology, and Climate Change Departments. These meetings were held at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan in presence of respective Ministers of all the departments where the Governor took stock of the activities of the departments. Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam, for both Irrigation and Information Technology departments, Syedain Abbasi presented comprehensive overviews of the activities of the departments. He also gave the status of various schemes and future goals of both the departments that the government has set in the Amrit Kaal. The Governor said that since irrigation is an important component for agriculture in Assam, there has to be intense initiatives from the department to revamp all irrigation projects in the state. During the Information and Technology Department meeting, the Additional Chief Secretary briefed the Governor on the department’s efforts to improve the state’s landscape in terms of information and technology. Narsing Pawar, the Managing Director of AMTRON, provided insights into the organization’s role in consultancy, design, standardization, and the execution of turnkey projects for IT infrastructure development in the Northeast Region. The Governor was also informed about North East India’s first Drone Pilot Training School and the Tech City, a project aimed at meeting the state’s IT requirements. Considering the role of the IT sector in the state’s growth, the Governor stressed the importance of data security for the people of Assam. Secretary Science, Technology, and Climate Change department Laya Maduri informed the Governor about the state’s progress in creating a conducive scientific environment. She also spoke about the Bio Tech Park in Amingaon and its role in academic and industrial sphere. The Governor asked the department to make their facilities and initiatives available to universities and students. He emphasized that collaboration with state universities could yield fruitful results, given the various initiatives undertaken by the department. Minister Irrigation, Ashok Singhal, Minister IT and Science, Technology and Climate Change Keshab Mahanta and a host of officials from Irrigation, Information and Technology, Science, Technology and Climate Change and Raj Bhavan were present at the meeting.
