Governor congratulates Assam artistes on getting prestigious national honours

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya congratulated the artistes from the state who have been selected for the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for the years 2024 and 2025.

In a statement here today, Governor Shri Acharya said that the recognition of the artistes at the national level is a matter of immense pride for Assam and reflects the richness, diversity, and enduring vitality of the state’s cultural traditions. Their achievements underscore Assam’s significant contribution to India’s performing arts and highlight the dedication of its artistes in preserving and promoting the country’s invaluable cultural heritage.

Among the recipients of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for 2024, Prema Oja Barbayan for Sattriya Dance and Bipul Chandra Das for Kathak Dance. For 2025, the awardees are Chetana Das for Acting, Mallika Kandali for Sattriya Dance, and Bhaskar Jyoti Oja for Sattriya Music.

The recipients of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar for 2024 from Assam are Minakshi Medhi for Sattriya Dance, Dilip Hira for Folk Music, and Bidyut Kumar Nath for Theatre Direction. For 2025, the young artistes selected for this prestigious honour are Niranjan Saikia Borbayan for Sattriya Dance, Debajit Saikia for Khol Percussion, and Hirak Jyoti Sarma for Tokari Geet and Folk Music.

The Governor said that the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, conferred by the Sangeet Natak Akademi the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama are among the highest recognitions in the field of performing arts in India. These honours acknowledge excellence, innovation, and lifelong dedication to the promotion of the nation’s cultural heritage.

The Governor expressed confidence that the achievements of these eminent and emerging artistes will inspire younger generations to pursue artistic excellence and contribute to the preservation and advancement of Assam’s vibrant cultural traditions.
