Governor conducts aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Sivasagar and Jorhat

Visits relief camps, interacts with affected families, distributes relief materials

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today visited the flood affected areas of Sivasagar and Jorhat districts to assess the extent of the flood-hit damage and review the ongoing relief and rescue operations. He also undertook an aerial survey of the flood hit areas of Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat to take note of the extent of damage caused by the current wave of flood.

During his visit to Sivasagar district, the Governor visited the Laxmi Nagar Relief Camp and the Sivasagar High School Relief Camp, where he interacted with flood-affected families to to understand their sufferings and took stock of the facilities being provided at the camps. He also distributed relief materials among the inmates and enquired about the availability of food, drinking water, healthcare, sanitation and other essential services.

Talking to the affected families, Shri Acharya assured them that the Government stands firmly with them and that every possible effort is being made to provide timely relief and restore normalcy at the earliest. He also conveyed that Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah are closely monitoring the flood situation in Assam and are extending all necessary support to the State.

The Governor asked the district administration to pay special attention to the needs of children, women, lactating mothers, senior citizens and students staying in the relief camps and ensure that no affected family is deprived of essential assistance. He also stressed that relief operations should continue with compassion and efficiently until normalcy is restored.

The Governor however, appreciated the tireless efforts of the district administration, disaster response teams, security forces, health personnel, volunteers and local communities for their dedicated service during the crisis. He called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination to ensure that relief and rehabilitation measures reach every affected person promptly and effectively.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta, Guardian Minister of Sivasagar Bimal Bora, senior officials of the Government of Assam and the district administration accompanied the Governor during his visit.
