Governor attends closing ceremony of Livestock and Poultry show-2024

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria attended the closing function of the  Livestock and Poultry show-2024 at Farm Gate playground, Khanapara today and called upon the stakeholders to avail the benefits of the government schemes for the growth of their income.Speaking on the occasion, Shri Kataria said that the contribution of agriculture and allied sector to the state’s GDP is 19.89 percent, out of which only the livestock and poultry sector contributes 5.30 percent. The Government of Assam has always been encouraging local farmers and youth to meet the demand of milk, meat and eggs within the state. As a result, many new startups have emerged in the state and people are gradually becoming self-reliant. Shri Kataria stressed that the farmers’ income can be increased if they use modern technology in sectors like cattle rearing, poultry and dairy production. He also gave examples of Gujarat and Punjab where the state has progressed astoundingly in agriculture and milk production.The Governor also said that it is a matter of satisfaction that at present Assam is a leading state in the country in the field of “pig production” and has also progressed phenomenally in poultry production.  In milk and egg production the state is gearing up. Under the Assam Dairy Development Scheme, a target of producing 10 lakh litres of milk per day has been set in the state. He asked the department to take concerted steps to organize the unorganized dairy sector and form clusters to ensure sustainable marketing of milk in the state. The Governor expressed happiness that for doubling the income of farmers, the government has implemented schemes like Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM), National Livestock Mission (NLM), Livestock Health and Disease Control (LH and DC) programme, Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) etc. He urged upon the farmers to take advantage of the government schemes to ensure sustainable growth in agriculture and allied sector.The Governor said that he is confident that through the Live Stock and Poultry Show  many youth of the state would be encouraged, inspired and would contribute significantly to “Atmanirbhar Bharat”. The Governor also hailed the Chief Minister for his leadership and his farsightedness in bringing about growth and progress in the state. He also thanked the organizers for holding the show to exhibit different prominent breeds of economic importance, plants and machineries, modern technologies and best practices to the farming community.Minister of Agriculture Atul Bora, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, PHE Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, Chairman of Assam Livestock Development Corporation Manoj Saikia, Principal Secretary Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Manish Thakur along with a host of other dignitaries were present in the closing function.Later the Governor also visited the stalls and interacted with the entrepreneurs and farmers.
