Ensuring every household to hoist national flag

Guwahati, Rongili Barta-  With an aim to make the HarGharTiranga campaign a success, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed with all the deputy commissioners recently. Ensuring the national flag is hoisted at every household from 13 to 15 August, Sarma directed the district authorities to encourage maximum participation of people. He advised publicity campaigns highlighting the relaxation of flag codes in the run-up to the platinum jubilee celebrations of independence. In another meeting, Sarma asked the State transport department to work with PWD (road) to ensure more safety norms to be introduced in accident-prone areas so that incidences of road accidents can be brought down and save precious lives. Taking a review of the department on Tuesday in the city, where all the district transport officers were present, Sarma asked concerned minister Parimal Suklabaidya to hold meetings regularly to assess the road accidents. Sarma also directed the district magistrates, where more than 100 fatalities caused by road accidents last year, to convene a meeting with all stakeholders and find out ways to cut down the number of accidents. Since most of the road-related fatalities are caused by not wearing helmets or avoiding seat belts, the police and transport department should jointly undertake a massive fortnight campaign before Durga Puja to generate necessary awareness, he added.
