Governor Shri Acharya hoists National Flag on 80th Independence Day at Lok Bhavan;
Honours armed forces veterans
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Joining the nation in celebrating the 80th Independence Day of India, Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya hoisted the National Flag at Lok Bhavan today. The ceremony was attended by officers, staff and the family members of Lok Bhavan, while personnel of the CRPF presented a ceremonial Guard of Honour, adding solemnity and grandeur to the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya extended his warm greetings to the people of Assam. He called upon citizens, particularly the youth, to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and dedicate themselves to the service of the nation. Stating that the spirit of Independence is best honoured through collective action and responsible citizenship, he urged everyone to contribute towards building a strong, Atmanirbhar and Viksit Bharat.
Paying rich tributes to the architects of India’s freedom, the Governor said that the nation’s progress rests on the foundations laid by countless patriots who made extraordinary sacrifices for the cause of independence. He noted that their courage, commitment and ideals continue to inspire generations and guide the country’s journey towards a brighter future.
As part of the celebrations, Governor Shri Acharya felicitated distinguished armed forces veterans in recognition of their exemplary contributions both during and after their service to the nation. The veterans honoured were Nb Sub Dilip Duarah (Retd), Army; JWO Dilip Chandra Kalita (Retd), Air Force; Sub Puspa Lal Bhattarai (Retd), Assam Regiment, Army; NK Anupam Das (Retd), Army; and Hav Mukta Roy (Retd), Army.
The Governor lauded their dedication to the nation and their continued engagement in social and welfare activities. He observed that their lives exemplify the values of discipline, service and selflessness, making them role models for society. Shri Acharya wished them good health and a long life and encouraged them to continue inspiring younger generations through their constructive contributions to nation-building.
Students of Army Public School Narengi also presented a dance drama titled ‘Yuva Shakti- Power of Youth’ on the occasion.
