IMD forecasts for very heavy rainfall likely over the State in coming 3-4 days
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted today of heavy to very heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm from 30th July to 1st August, 2026 at the isolated places across Assam and the neighbouring states like East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Papumpare, Lower Subansiri & Lower Dibang valley of Arunachal Pradesh which may affect the neighbouring districts i.e. Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of Assam. The orange alert has been issued for Tinsukia district. Further, orange alert was also issued for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland which may affect the neighbouring districts like Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
The weather pattern suggests that thunderstorm with lightning with heavy rainfall (6-11cm/day) at most places of East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri & Lower Dibang valley along with very heavy rainfall (12-20 cm/day) is very likely to occur at isolated places over Papumpare district which may affect all the neighbouring districts of Assam. It may aggravate water logging, flooding, flash floods, slow vehicular movement, and increase the risk of localized landslides in vulnerable pockets. The district authorities and ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.
In view of the situation, Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) requests all the citizens of the concerned districts to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant. Daily commuters and long-distance travellers are requested to plan their routines accordingly, avoiding unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall. Residents in low-lying and hillside areas should stay alert for any signs of flooding or landslides.
