Governor felicitates Assam’s first woman Everest summiteer Rupamoni Gorh
Guwahati,Rongili Barta : Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, felicitated Ms. Rupamoni Gorh, the first woman from Assam to scale Mount Everest, at a programme held at Lok Bhavan. Ms. Gorh achieved this unique feat on May 21, 2026, as a member of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s first-ever all-women international Everest expedition.

Congratulating Ms. Gorh on her remarkable achievement, the Governor said, “Your feat is a shining example of courage, determination and indomitable spirit. You have brought pride to Assam and so I sincerely feel that your inspiring journey would encourage young people, especially girls, to dream big and strive for excellence.”

Ms. Gorh was accompanied by her parents, Ms. Bhanita Timungpi, leader of the ITBP All Women Everest Expedition, and representatives of the Assam Mountaineering Association.
The Governor extended his best wishes to Ms. Gorh for her future endeavours and lauded her contribution in inspiring the younger generation through her extraordinary achievement.
