Governor inaugurates Model Village Development programme at Jagra village in Nalbari
Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today inaugurated the Model Village Development programme at Jagra village in Nalbari district and called for collective efforts to transform villages into centres of holistic and sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya said that the real strength of an ideal village lies in the active participation by the people. He stressed the need for educated youth, farmers, women’s groups, voluntary organisations and Panchayat representatives to work together for the all-round development of the village. He also underlined the importance of education, healthcare, agriculture, sanitation, women empowerment and environmental protection in building a model rural community.

Referring to Mahatma Gandhi’s vision that “India lives in its villages”, the Governor said that rural development remains the foundation of nation building. He also highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat”, stating that stronger villages will lead to a stronger nation.

The Governor appreciated the efforts of Bharat Vikas Parishad, Assam Prant and its collaborating institutions like the Indian Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology of Ranchi, Assam Agricultural University of Jorhat, Assam Veterinary and Fisheries University of Guwahati Khanapara and SPREAD-NE of Sonapur for launching the initiative. He particularly emphasized the importance of scientific farming methods, organic agriculture, water conservation and the integration of modern technology with traditional agricultural knowledge to strengthen Assam’s rural economy.

Highlighting the role of youth and women in rural transformation, Shri Acharya said that digital literacy, agri-entrepreneurship, self-help groups and skill development would play a key role in making villages self-reliant and prosperous.
The Governor also emphasized the importance of building a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” and urged the people, especially the youth, to stay away from substance abuse and work towards creating a healthy and disciplined society. Stressing the need for environmental conservation, he appealed to everyone to plant more trees and motivate others to actively participate in plantation drives for a greener and sustainable future.

As a part of the programme, soil testing kit, improved varieties of rice seeds, Assam lemon saplings, vermi beds, 2000 poultry chicks along with feed were given to around 200 farmers and beneficiaries.
The Governor on the occasion also had lunch with the villagers and students of 54 No. Jagra LP School and interacted with them.

MLA Borkhetri Legislative Assembly Constituency Narayan Deka, Vice Chancellor Assam Agricultural University Prof. Deepjyoti Rajkhowa, Vice Chancellor Assam Animal Husbandry and Veterinary University Prof. Niranjan Kalita, Regional Joint Secretary Bharat Vikas Parishad, North-East Region Biswajit De, Patron of Assam State Unit of the Parishad Kamal Malla Buzarbaruah, President of Assam State Unit of the Parishad Kishore Kumar Baruah and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
