Governor attends special talk on Vedic Philosophy

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Asam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, today attended a special talk on “Importance of Vedic Knowledge in Indian Tradition” held at Lok Bhavan on the occasion of the valedictory session of Seva Sankalp Saptah.

 

On the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya expressed happiness on the successful culmination of the week-long programme named Seva Sankalp Saptah, organised by Lok Bhavan, Assam as a part of its outreach activities to expedite all round development of the people. He said that the spirit of service, public participation and cultural awareness witnessed during the week reflects the efficacy of the initiative.

Quoting the Vedic mantra “Aa no bhadraah kratavo yantu vishwatah”. Let noble thoughts come to us from all directions, he said that India’s tradition has always encouraged openness of thought and transformation of knowledge into public welfare. He observed that Seva Sankalp Week represents the practical expression of Vedic consciousness, where service is seen not as charity but responsibility.

Emphasizing the harmony between knowledge and service in Indian philosophy, the Governor noted that when wisdom and compassion move together, social balance and collective progress are strengthened.

Referring to Assam’s cultural heritage, he described it as a living embodiment of the state’s life giving prosperity. Paying tribute to Srimanta Sankardev, he said that the saint’s Ek-Sharana-Nama-Dharma and the institution of Namghars and Satras exemplify the fusion of devotion, knowledge and social service.

The Governor highlighted that the various initiatives undertaken during Seva Sankalp Saptah namely health outreach, cleanliness drives, awareness campaigns and educational activities convey a clear message that the essence of governance lies in service. He called upon all stakeholders to carry forward this spirit throughout the year, making service a value-based proposition.

Former Head of the Department of Veda, Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Patanjali Mishra; Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram; Vice-Chancellor Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Prof. Prahlad Joshi; Head of the Department of Sanskrit at Gauhati University, Prof. Kameshwar Shukla who were present at the programme also shared their expertise on the occasion.
