Assam Governor attends Passing-Out Parade Ceremony of Manipur police constables

Capable and responsive police forces are need of the hour to ensure stability and peace: Governor

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam and Manipur Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya said that the security challenges in North East go much beyond the threat emanating from conventional borders and conventional crimes which demand a capable and responsive police forces to ensure stability and peace, for the region  to tread the path of progress and prosperity.

Attending the passing out parade ceremony of 1946 newly recruited constables of Manipur Police at Lachit Barphukan Police Academy, at Dergaon today, the Governor said that the 21st Century has ushered in its own set of challenges. Though turbulence and uncertainty have manifested all along the history of mankind, this century has witnessed challenges emanating from digital proliferation. He, therefore, asked the police forces to equip themselves with the art of policing required to deal with the challenges of the 21st century.

The Governor congratulated the newly trained constables, stating, “Today marks a momentous occasion in your lives. You have successfully completed your rigorous training with hard work, dedication, and courage.” He also said that after months of rigorous training, the constables are going to handle the duties meant for them. He termed the passing out of the training as their achievement and a significant step toward ensuring collective peace and security.

Speaking on the institution where they received their training, the Governor said that the legacy of Lachit Barphukan, the great Ahom commander, known for his extraordinary leadership and strategic prowess during the historic Battle of Saraighat in 1671, always stand as a testament to the heroics and patriotism of the Ahom commander.

Urging them to emulate the heroics of Veer Lachit, the Governor said that the spirit to serve the nation will help the police constables serve the people. He also extended his gratitude to the trainers and officers of the academy for their exceptional efforts in shaping the constables into strong and capable protectors.

The Governor also said that, “Your service forms the foundation of our nation’s security, peace, and prosperity. Your uniform symbolizes your conduct, duty, and integrity. As protectors of people, you will become the voice of those in need.” The Governor highlighted the importance of Manipur’s rich cultural, social, and historical heritage and the importance of working together as a cohesive team for the betterment of the state and country.

He also emphasized the need for a capable and responsive police force to address emerging challenges, including cybercrime and digital security. Governor Shri Acharya said that more than ever before, at present, Manipur requires young men and women to take up the challenge of navigation through troubled waters and work tirelessly and selflessly even at the peril of their lives in the service of their state.

The passing-out parade ceremony marked the culmination of the rigorous training program, which included physical fitness, small arms training, unarmed combat, crowd control, disaster management, law and policing, and soft skills.
