Governor felicitates heads of Gauhati University, Cotton University, B. Borooah College and Bhola Nath College
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria felicitated heads of Gauhati University, Cotton University, B. Borooah College and Bhola Nath College of Dhubri for their outstanding performance in the academic pursuit, which has enabled them to attain commendations from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The felicitation programme was held here in Raj Bhavanin the presence of the Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and higher officials of the Education department.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor congratulated the heads of the educational institutions and their team of teaching and non-teaching staff for their dedicated services which enabled their respective institutions earn appropriate commendations. The Governor said that universities should not merely confer degrees but also identify and nurture inherent talents among students. He also stressed on the need of creation of a supportive environment for research and innovation in the academic institutions.
In recognizing the achievements of Gauhati University, Cotton University, and B. Borooah College and Bhola Nath College, the Governor remarked that their notable accomplishments would inspire other institutions to strive for excellence. He stressed that their achievements motivate institutions to advance further in their pursuit of knowledge and innovation.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said that Assam currently boasts of the highest number of NAAC-accredited higher education institutions. He emphasized the importance of all higher education institutions obtaining NAAC accreditation to ensure quality education across the state. He also said that the government has been generously funding for the creation of infrastructure of the institutions and also supports each institution comprehensively for providing both manpower and infrastructural backing.
It may be mentioned that Gauhati University was felicitated for achieving “A+ Grade” with CGPA 3.32 by NAAC and also for securing 44th Position in the academic category in Nature Index 2024. The University also became the first state university in India to achieve ISO 9001:2015 certification. Cotton University secured 51st position in Nature Index 2024. Bhola Nath College, Dhubri was felicitated for being conferred with Autonomous Status by UGC and also was accredited with A+ Grade by NAAC. B. Borooah College, Guwahati was also conferred the Autonomous Status by UGC and got accredited with A++ by NAAC.
Registrar of GU Hemanta Kr Nath, VC of Cotton University Prof.Ramesh Ch Deka, Principal of B. Barooah College Dr. Satyendra Nath Barman, Principal of B.N.College Dhurba Chakraborty received the felicitation.
