Governor visits Dhemaji; holds meeting with district administration

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria visited Dhemaji district today and held a meeting with the district administration in presence of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, District Commissioner Ankur Bharali and SP Hitesh Chandra Roy at DC Conference hall. In the meeting, the Governor took stock of the implementation of both Central and State government schemes and the qualitative improvement they have brought about in the lives of the people.

During the meeting, the District Commissioner apprised the Governor of different flagship schemes being undertaken and implemented in the district along with their progress. He informed the Governor on the progress of Amrit Sarovars and the plantation drive along with fencing activities around the Amrit Sarovars. The District Commissioner also informed the Governor about the process of installation of solar lights around the water bodies.

The Governor also took stock of the construction of PM Awas Yojana-Gramin, and asked the DC to conduct daily monitoring on the progress of the programme. He also asked the DC to lay more stress on the construction of the shelter houses under the scheme.   The Governor expressed satisfaction and lauded the government functionaries in the district for their good performance in the National Social Assistance Programme. He also expressed satisfaction over the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission scheme and maintained that a weekly monitoring is required for the Har Ghar Jal initiative to reach its successful culmination.

In the meeting, the Governor also reviewed the works of the education department, forest, horticulture, PHE, PWD, Fisheries and many others. He also asked the CEO Zila Parishad to frequently review the works of MGNREGA, emphasizing the need for meticulous monitoring and flawless record-keeping.

During the meeting, the Governor asked SP Hitesh Chandra Roy to pay attention to perpetration of crime against women. Considering the fact that the conviction rate is less compared to the crime rate against women, he asked the SP to use his men prudently to bring crime against women to zero. He also asked the SP to be vigilant on POCSO Act and bring perpetrators of the Act to justice.
