Governor holds meeting with Chancellor’s nominees
Asks them to work as catalyst for the development of universities
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria while meeting chancellor’s nominees at Raj Bhavan today said that the State government is giving top priority of transforming higher education institutions into a hub of human resource development, as he asked the nominees to play the role of catalyst in this process. Talking to the nominees of Bodoland University, Madhabdev University and Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University the Governor said that State government has an inclusive and exclusive action plan for all the state universities to convert them into resource centres which can play their role in human resource development. He said the universities should play their role in empowering their students to create jobs for others. He asked the chancellor’s nominees to contribute in turning the institutions of higher education into robust platform of man-making. Kataria told them that having visited the universities across the state, he is of the view that some of the universities have their unused land which can well be utilised for growing plants having economic value. They should also motivate the students in lending their hands in turning the universities clean and green. The Governor asked them to have agenda for making their respective universities vibrant. It may be noted that the Governor convened the meeting of the Chancellor’s nominees to meet them physically and hear their issues in university matters. He asked them to visit the universities personally and stay in the campus and see how the university is functioning. Governor Kataria said that the quality of higher education institutions depend on the quality of research. He, therefore, asked the nominees to use their experience and encourage the universities more for quality research. He also asked them to be in touch of the alumni and seek their assistance for the development of universities. The nominees during the meeting also thanked the Governor for convening the meeting as this interface, according to them, will help them to work as a team for the growth and development of the universities.
