Assam Governor mourns death of Burha Satriya of Barpeta Satra, Baishishtha Deva Sharma
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi mourned the death of Satriya exponent Burha Satriya of Barpeta Satra, Baishishtha Deva Sharma who breathed his last. In a statement here today, Prof. Mukhi said, “Baishishtha Deva Sharma a spiritual leader and also an erudite Vaishnavite scholar worked for the promotion of Satriya dance and music altogether to a new height. His death is a huge loss for the socio-cultural and spiritual epithet of the state”. He moreover said that throughout his life Late Sharma worked for spiritual and intellectual uplift of the people and he left behind a rich legacy which will continue to be a source of inspiration for the generation to come. “My earnest prayers to the Almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul and hope that even after his death Barpeta Satra continues to take the spiritual and intellectual legacy of the satra culture to a great height”, the Governor added.
